ADBLUE FLUID

If you have a diesel vehicle with an AdBlue system, we want it to be in perfect condition. At First Stop, we think about your wellbeing, that of your vehicle and of our environment.

AdBlue, for greener diesel driving

If you have a car with an AdBlue system, you are making your driving greener. The AdBlue is a fluid which filters the gases from your diesel engine, to comply with European NOx gas emissions (seriously harmful to health) AdBlue also cuts fuel consumption.

This additive consists of urea (32.5%) diluted with distilled water, which makes it highly corrosive. If your vehicle tells you that you need to refill the AdBlue, we advise you to leave it in the hands of your First Stop expert.

When should you refill with AdBlue liquid?

Your car will notify you automatically when the levels fall. A warning will sound when the vehicle starts, telling you to go to First Stop to fill up the AdBlue.

If your vehicle’s additive supply is used up during a journey you can go to your nearest First Stop Centre, but when you turn on the engine you will not be able to start until you have reset the unit after filling it. So make sure you do not run out completely, so that this does not happen.

Why refill with AdBlue liquid?

  • Without AdBlue, your vehicle will no longer start
  • Your car will generate lower levels of polluting gases
  • You will save on fuel
  • You will help to improve public health

ADBLUE FLUID FAQs

WHAT IS THE NORMAL CAPACITY AND RUNNING TIME WITH ONE TANK OF ADBLUE?

In general, your vehicle will have 20 litres of fluid, giving you a 12,000 m running time.

HOW DO I KNOW WHEN I HAVE TO FILL UP THE ADBLUE FLUID?

Your vehicle will tell you when you need to refill the fluid, with an indicator light on the dashboard. Details are given in the vehicle handbook.

WHAT HAPPENS IF I DON’T REFILL MY VEHICLE'S ADBLUE?

If you miss the warning from the car about refilling with AdBlue, your vehicle will stop working. This is because without AdBlue, the vehicle does not comply with certification rules, and the system blocks the ignition.

WHAT CARE DOES A CAR WITH ADBLUE NEED?

The only precaution to take when you are using a car with AdBlue is to fill the tank before the additive runs out.

CAN I FILL UP WITH ADBLUE MYSELF?

Technically it is as simple as opening the cover of your AdBlue tank and filling it up. The problem is that you have to connect the car to a diagnostic machine, to reset the meter on the control unit which runs the system. If you fill it yourself, you must also use gloves and protective goggles because it is a corrosive liquid. You must also have to take care not to splash it or spill it on the car's carpets or paintwork because it will ruin them.

It is always recommended to go to your nearest First Stop Centre so that an expert can refill the AdBlue.
